Practical Examples

 |
Those who want to save energy must use it wisely. With the 4EE systematic approach, you gain cross-technology solutions for your machines and systems. See how you can benefit from the 4EE systematic approach in practice.

Reduce speeds as required

With variable-speed pump drives, you can achieve an energy savings of up to 44 percent on a folding press, for example. They lower the speeds to zero during partial-load operation or pauses.

This reduces not only the direct energy requirement, but also the development of heat. You can therefore do away with cooling entirely in most cases. IndraDrive servo motors automatically switch to generator mode upon load-free downward movements, thereby generating energy that can be fed back into the system.

Reduce cabling with decentralized units
With twelve hours of operation per day at about 300 operating days per year, an optimized package distribution system consumes around 23,400 kWh less per year. That reduces CO2 emissions by a good 14 metric tons.

Among other things, this was achieved by merging 20 IndraDrive Mi drives into one load circuit. A modern power supply unit feeds the braking energy back into the supply network. That way, braking energy is no longer lost to heat. Furthermore, the controller electronics and servo motors form a compact unit, which reduces cabling requirements by as much as 85 percent.

Use brake energy for acceleration

As a fleet operator of refuse and distribution vehicles or for municipal operation of school and regular service busses, you can lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 25 percent by not wasting any braking energy, but putting it to good use instead.

Hybrid drive hydrostatic regenerative braking converts kinetic energy into hydraulic energy upon braking. This stored energy is fed back into the drive system the next time the vehicle accelerates. That reduces the load on the internal combustion engine. A positive added benefit for man and environment: this also significantly reduces diesel particle output.

Adapt cooling performance as required

In your mobile machines and busses, Rexroth hydrostatic fan drives help you to adhere to the strict regulations on exhaust emission levels. At the same time, you reduce fuel consumption by up to 5 percent.

To achieve this, electronically controlled hydrostatic fan drives provide the exact cooling performance necessary irrespective of the speed of the internal combustion engine. That way, you keep the engine at its optimum operating temperature even under the heaviest operating conditions.

Only use the amount of pressure that is required

You can save up to 55% energy if you observe a few simple construction principles. For example, using the Easy-2-Combine interface you can directly connect your pneumatic components. Standardized interfaces and positive connections without any adapter plates produce a low own weight. This reduces the necessary driving power and decreases your energy consumption. Also adapt your energy use to current need. The ED series pressure control valves split the actuator's motion sequence into phases for this purpose. This means your valves can significantly save energy even over short distances.
